FNE spoke to the head of the Slovak Film Commission Zuzana Bieliková about how the pandemic has impacted foreign productions shooting in Slovakia and how the Slovak Audiovisual Fund has supported filmmakers and cinemas with special measures during the pandemic.

PRAGUE: The CEE Animation Forum announced the 42 animated projects that will be presented in the 26 – 29 April 2021 pitching competition and at the Anifilm IFAF on 4 – 9 May.

BUCHAREST: Radu Jude's satire Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn has been sold to 15 territories so far, including North America, where it will be distributed by Magnolia Pictures. The film was awarded the Golden Bear at the 71st edition of the Berlin International Film Festival, which took place online 1-5 March 2021.

The Echoes of the 24th Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival will kick off online this Thursday for audiences in the Czech Republic. Selected films will then be available also to viewers in Belgium, France and New York. This year’s Ji.hlava documentary spring will offer award-winning films, discussions with filmmakers and masterclasses. The Echoes are held in partnership with Czech Centers network.

VALLETTA: Luzzu, the low budget Maltese film by Alex Camilleri, has secured distribution in major territories, including the USA, the UK, France, China, Spain, Scandinavia, Portugal, Greece, the former Yugoslavia, and Eastern Europe.

PRAGUE: The Ji.hlava IDFF is expanding its post-festival online showcase Echoes of Ji.hlava, to reach audiences in Belgium, France, and New York, in addition to its Czech component.

That’s just a short list of subjects that go together with the subtitle Address: Planet Earth, chosen by the organisers of EKOFILM, the oldest international film festival focused on the environment in Europe, for its 47th edition. From now until 31 March filmmakers may submit their films via the website filmfreeway.com. The festival is held by the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic in cooperation with organisers Key promotion, Masaryk University and EkoInkubátor.

TALLINN: The 25th edition of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival has opened submissions to the main programme as well as to its short film, animation, and children’s film sister events. Tallinn Black Nights FF will run 12 – 28 November 2021.
