LJUBLJANA: Metod Pevec’s Slovenian/Serbian/Macedonian coproduction I Am Frank started shooting in the small Slovenian town of Tržič on 23 November 2017. Pevec is well-known for his multiple-award-winning drama Beneath Her Window (Vertigo, 2003), as well as for his remarkable documentaries Home (Vertigo, 2015) and The Alexandrians (Vertigo, 2011).

LJUBLJANA: Goran Vojnović is in preparation with drama Once Were Humans / Nekoč so bili ljudje about two guys who get involved in human trafficking. Vojnović is a renowned Slovenian screenwriter and director, who gained recognition with Chefurs Raus! (2013, Arsmedia). His new film is a Slovenian/Croatian/Bosnian/Italian/Czech coproduction.

LJUBLJANA: The Slovenian Film Centre announced development and production grants of 837,000 EUR in November 2017. Thirty one projects were selected for co-funding in three categories: audiovisual projects production, short films production and script development.

LJUBLJANA: The Slovenian Film Centre has announced production grants of 2.38 m EUR for four full-length feature films, two documentary features and two feature debuts.

LJUBLJANA: The family drama To the Stars and Back / Do zvezd in nazaj by Marko Šantić completed shooting at the end of October 2017 and has entered postproduction. Šantić won the Best directing Vesna award in 2013 for his first feature Seduce Me (2013, RTV Slovenija).

PORTOROŽ: Hanna Slak’s third feature film The Miner / Rudar was screened in the competition of the 20th Slovenian Film Festival in Portorož (12-16 September 2017). The film is based on the true story of a miner named Mehmedalija Alić and on his autobiography Nobody.

PORTOROŽ: Rok Biček's documentary The Family won the Vesna Award for best film of the 20th Slovenian Film Festival, which ran in Portorož from 12 to 16 September 2017. The Vesna award for the best feature film went to Janez Burger’s drama Ivan, a film that also won seven other awards.

PORTOROŽ: Alen Drljević’s debut feature Men Don't Cry / Muškarci ne plaču was screened in the competition of the 20th Slovenian Film Festival in Portorož (12-16 September 2017). This brilliantly directed drama, which explores how we can only forgive others once we have forgiven ourselves, has been chosen as the official candidate from Bosnia and Herzegovina for the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences nomination 2017 in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

PORTOROŽ: Miha Čelar’s docudrama Codelli will be screened in the competition of the 20th Slovenian Film Festival in Portorož (12-16 September 2017). This poetic documentary tells a story about the life of Baron Antonio Codelli, an almost unknown Slovenian inventor, who also produced the first feature film made in Africa.

PORTOROŽ: Miha Knific’s third feature film Perseverance / Vztrajanje will be screened in the competition of the 20th Slovenian Film Festival in Portorož (12-16 September 2017). The film is a Slovenian/Croatian/Italian coproduction.
