RIGA: The National Film Centre of Latvia allotted production grants for 25 projects in 2016. The total amount of 1,993,461 EUR was distributed to three fiction films, five animated films and nine documentaries, as well as to eight projects started in 2015.

RIGA: Director Jānis Nords is currently shooting Foam at the Mouth / Ar putām uz Lūpām, a psychological drama in a contemporary setting. The premiere of this Latvian/Lithuanian/Polish coproduction is set for 2017.

RIGA: Admissions in Latvia were over 2.4 m in 2015, approximately 2 % more than in 2014. Market share of European and domestic films decreased compared to 2014.

RIGA: National Film Centre of Latvia will grant 946,010 EUR in 2016 through the newly established Co-financing Fund, aiming to attract foreign financing for Latvian film industry and to promote industrial competitiveness and professional development.

National Film Centre of Latvia announced the following grants for Latvian Films for Latvia’s Centennial on 8 December 2015.

RIGA: National Film Centre of Latvia allotted 6,802,000 EUR for sixteen projects in the Latvian Films for Latvia’s Centennial grants session.

After the financial meltdown in 2008 and 2009 the recovery of Latvian film industry has been steadily improving each year. State funding for film industry increased significantly reaching 4.3 m EUR in 2014, more than double the amount from 2011. It is projected that the annual state support for film industry will increase to 5.5 m EUR in 2015.

RIGA: The documentary film Ruch and Norie won four awards at the 27th edition of Latvia’s The Great Christopher/Lielais Kristaps festival of national films.

RIGA: National Film Centre of Latvia confirmed 114,501 EUR to six projects in the second documentary film grants session of 2015.

RIGA: Acclaimed director Ivars Zviedris is currently working on a new project Loggers / Zāģeri, a documentary about the communities of Latvian forest workers.
