BUCHAREST: Cătălin Mitulescu’s new feature film Heidi follows a police officer nearing retirement who is given the mission to find two prostitutes who are willing to testify in an organised crime case. The fourth feature film of the Romanian writer/director/producer had its world premiere in the main competition of the 25th Sarajevo Film Festival.

BUCHAREST: Tel Aviv-based sales agent  Cinephil has acquired collective / colectiv, the new documentary by German-Romanian filmmaker Alexander Nanau, which will screen in the Official Selection – Out of Competition at the Venice International Film Festival of the Biennale di Venezia (28 August – 7 September 2019).

BUCHAREST: Four out of eleven new Romanian domestic films scheduled for release between now and the end of the year docs and one is a long animated film.  This mean an overall increase in the number of Romanian docs released.  

BUCHAREST: Ivana Mladenović’s sophomore feature Ivana the Terrible / Ivana cea Groaznică has been acquired by the Toronto-based outlet Syndicado Film Sales. This Romanian/Serbian coproduction produced by Ada Solomon will have its world premiere in the Cineasti del presente section of the 72nd Locarno Film Festival (7-17 August 2019).

BUCHAREST: Hungarian director Cecília Felméri is currently in postproduction with her debut feature Spiral, a Hungarian / Romanian coproduction starring Golden Bear winner protagonists Alexandra Borbély and Bogdan Dumitrache alongside Diána Kiss Magdolna.

BUCHAREST: Six-episode original HBO Europe series Tuff Money / Bani negri (pentru zile albe) written and directed by Daniel Sandu will start shooting in Romania in August 2019. Cristian Mungiu’s Mobra Films is producing.

BUCHAREST : The second season of the Italian miniseries La vita promessa by Ricky Tognazzi started shooting in Romania on 8 July 2019. The miniseries is produced by RAI Italy and it is serviced in Romania by Castel Film Studio. The project is benefitting from the 35% cash rebates launched in Romania in October 2018.
