SOFIA: Bulgarian National Film Center allotted slightly above 2m EUR / 4 m BGN at its second session on 2 December 2016. Six feature films and four short films received production funding, while script development grants went to three feature films.

SOFIA: Bulgaria’s most important autumn film celebration Cinemania, which opened at the National Palace of Culture on 17 November 2016 with Peter Valchanov’s and Kristina Grozeva’s Glory coproduced by Bulgaria’s Abraxas Film and Greece’s Graal Film, gave its special award to the festival’s founder, the film director and professor Lyudmil Staykov at the closing ceremony on 1 December.

SOFIA: Bubblegum, the first feature film by well-known Bulgarian TV serials director Stanislav Todorov – Rogi, has entered postproduction.

COTTBUS: Iglika Triffonova’s The Prosecutor, the Defender, the Father and His Son aka False Witness will screen in the main competition of the 26th Cottbus Film Festival, which opens on 8 November 2016. The film is a coproduction between Bulgaria, the Netherlands and Sweden.

VARNA: Ralitza Petrova’s debut feature Godless won the Golden Rose Award of the 34th Golden Rose National Film Festival (19 to 25 of September 2016). Ralitza Petrova was also awarded best director, while Irena Ivanova was awarded best actress.

VARNA: Godless by Ralitza Petrova will screen in the main competition of the 34th Golden Rose National Film Festival (19-25 September 2016). The Bulgarian/Danish coproduction has recently won the Golden Leopard of the 69th Locarno IFF and the 22nd Sarajevo FF's Special Jury Prize.

VARNA: Joost van Ginkel’s second feature film The Paradise Suite will screen in the main competition of the 34th Golden Rose National Film Festival (19-25 September 2016). The film is a Dutch/Swedish/ Bulgarian coproduction.

VARNA: Ivan Pavlov’s Memories of Fear will screen in the main competition of the 34th Golden Rose National Film Festival (19-25 September 2016). The script was written by Krassimir Kroumov-Gretz, a highly respected writer, director and film analyst, who passed away in 2015.

VARNA: Dimitar Kozev-Shosho’s second feature Monkey aka My Father, My Mother, My Sister will screen in the main competition of the 34th Golden Rose National Film Festival (19-25 September 2016).
