TALLINN: Rainer Sarnet’s adult fairy-tale November has been unanimously chosen as the official candidate from Estonia for an Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category. The film is an Estonian/Polish/Dutch coproduction.

The story, which takes place in a pagan Estonian village, where greedy and callous villagers are taking on the Plague, the Devil and various demonic entities, is an adaptation of the novel Rehepapp by Andrus Kivirähk. The film stars Rea Lest and Jörgen Liik.

The international premiere was at Tribeca Film Festival, where the film won best cinematography award for Mart Taniel. It was also selected for the official selection of the Karlovy Vary IFF, as well as in numerous other festivals.

November was produced by Estonia’s Homeless Bob Productions in coproduction with Poland’s Opus Film and the Dutch company PRPL. The film is distributed in the United States by Oscilloscope Pictures.

The deadline for submitting a foreign-language film for consideration is 3 October 2017. The 90th Oscars will be held on 4 March 2018.
