    18/11: UNIC Cinema Days  2016 – UNIC

    On 16 and 17 November the International Union of Cinemas (“UNIC) welcomed 140 senior decision makers representing key operators across UNIC’s 36 member territories, leading distributors and members of UNIC’s Partnership Programme to Brussels to discuss the latest trends and innovations in the exhibition sector.

    The report identifies and analyses the recent proposal of the European Commission concerning the regulation on ensuring the cross-border portability of online content in the internal market, in the context of the modernization of EU Copyright rules.

    24/11: FERA calls on EU Parliament to back European authors in Copyright Reform – FNE

    European Screenwriters and Directors have called on the European Parliament to ensure the EU copyright reform proposals ensure that authors are fairly remunerated for their work and that there is better support for the circulation and promotion of European audiovisual works.

    28/11: Council agrees to remove barriers to e-commerce – the AV sector is excluded from the scope of the draft regulation – Slovak Council of the EU

    The Council agreed on a draft regulation to ban unjustified geo-blocking between member states. The draft regulation is intended to remove discrimination based on customers' nationality, place of residence or place of establishment and to boost e-commerce.

    24/11: Country of Origin principle for catch-up TV endangers cultural diversity: Europe’s film agencies call for a change of approach - EFAD

    The European Film Agency Director’s (EFADs) position paper on the so called “Sat Cab Regulation”, outlines the EFADs’ concerns about the introduction of a Country of Origin principle for broadcasters’ ancillary online services such as catch-up TV. EFADs believes Sat Cab Regulation will weaken cultural diversity in European productions.
