BALTIC EVENT IN TALLINN

    At the end of November the Baltic Event was held in Tallinn, Estonia (November 25-28). The event is supported by the MEDIA program. The Finnish Film Foundation is a partner of the Baltic Event.

    Baltic Event was held for the eleventh time, and the event is growing in popularity year by year: this year's event was attended by about 250 film professionals from all over the world, from Finland alone more than 20 production companies participated.

    Co-Production Market section of the event saw production companies presenting their projects, which are on the development phase. There was one Finnish project: Making Movies presented The Fencer (Miekkailija), which will be produced by Kai Norberg and Kaarle Aho and directed by Klaus Hr. In the section dedicated to the completed films, Purge by Antti J Jokinen was screened. Purge took part in the Co-Production Market two years ago when it was seeking co-producers.

    B'EST - Producers' Workshop Baltic Bridge East by West section also included one Finnish project titled Finka, which will be directed by Reetta Aalto and produced by Liisa Juntunen for Napafilms. The negotiations with potential co-producers were started at the event.

    Coming Soon section also included forthcoming Finnish productions such as Aku Louhimies 8-ball (Blind Spot Pictures), and Taru Mkel's August Fools (Kinosto Oy + co-producers from the Czech Republic and Norway). Also the Lithuanian film Santa and the Estonian film Lisa Limone and Maroc Orange have Finnish co-producing partners; Cineworks co-produces Santa and Bufo Oy co-produces the Estonian animated film.

    The POWR workshop was also held as a part of the Baltic event. The workshop was organized by the Baltic countries and Mediadesks of Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark. The selected screenwriters got two days of intense preparatory training and then were able to pitch their projects to Baltic Event participants. Eight projects in total were selected, two of which were Finnish. Kirsikka Saari and Jenni Toivoniemi participated with Depression Comedy and Mari Mantela with Pykeija.
