JURY PRESIDENT FOR ISTANBUL FILM FESTIVAL NATIONAL GOLDEN TULIP COMPETITION WAS ANNOUNCED

    NATIONAL COMPETITION AWARDS WILL BE SELECTED BY JURY CHAIRED BY TAYFUN PİRSELİMOĞLU

    Distinguished writer-director Tayfun Pirselimoğlu will serve as the jury president of the National Golden Tulip Competition in the 32nd Istanbul Film Festival, to be organised between 30 March and 14 April by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts, sponsored by Akbank.

    Distinguished writer-director Tayfun Pirselimoğlu will be the jury president in the Istanbul Film Festival’s National Golden Tulip Competition. After completing his studies in the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Pirselimoğlu studied Painting and Printing at Hochschüle für Angewandte Kunst in Vienna and held international exhibitions in various cities. Tayfun Pirselimoğlu began his film career as scriptwriter. His debut feature film in 2002 Hiçbiryerde (Innowhereland) was widely acclaimed. Rıza (2007) was the first film of his trilogy “Conscience and Death” followed by Pus (Haze) in 2009. In addition to its selection as “Best Film” in the 30th Istanbul Film Festival National Golden Tulip Competition in 2011, his latest feature and the final film of the trilogy, Saç (Hair), brought him the “Best Director” award and the “Best Actress” award to Nazan Kesal. Also known for his literary works, Tayfun Pirselimoğlu published his first novel Çöl Masalları (Tales from the Desert)in 1996, which was followed by Kayıp Şahıslar Albumü (Album of the Missing Persons) in 2002, Malihulya (Melancholia) in 2003 and Şehrin Kuleleri (Towers of the City)in 2005. His collection of short stories Otel Odaları (Rooms of the Hotels) was published in 2009. Tayfun Pirselimoğlu’s latest book Harry Lime’in En Yeni Hayatları ya da Üçüncü Adam’a Övgü (The Newest Lives of Harry Lime or Praise to the Third Man)was introduced in 2012. Tayfun Pirselimoğlu continues to lecture and teach courses on painting, scriptwriting and directing in various cities of the world.

    The National Competition Jury chaired by Tayfun Pirselimoğlu will award prizes in 9 categories: Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, Best Screenplay, Best Director of Photography, Best Editing, Best Music and Special Jury Award.

    Best Film selected by the National Competition Jury will be awarded with 150.000 TL, Best Director with 50.000 TL. The prizes for Best Actress and Best Actor will be 10.000 TL each. The Special Jury Award supported with a monetary award for the first time in 2011 will be given again by Efes this year. Director of one of the movies competing in the National Golden Tulip Competition will be awarded the Special Jury Prize in memory of Onat Kutlar and 30.000 US dollars given by Efes. The jury will also award the Best Screenplay, Best Director of Photography, Best Editing and Best Original Music awards.
