Among the international premieres are several award-winning and nominated films of this year, like the Kazakh “Shal” / The Old Man, that was nominated for foreign language Oscar, as well as “Au revoir l' été” (Japan, director Koji Fukada) that will see its first international screening just after premiering last week at Tokyo International Film Festival. The competition presents a varied program spanning from the big movie “The Great Beauty” by Paolo Sorrentino to the little Kyrgyzstan gem “Taxi and Telephone” by Ernest Abdyjaparov.  
 
Festival director Tiina Lokk comments: “I’m extremely happy to cherish the increasing numbers of filmmakers who choose The Black Nights EurAsia competition as the festival for launching their film. Considering the number of international premieres we appreciate the filmmakers trust and will do our best to promote these new films for international audiences.”

The international jury judging the films will consist of distinguished filmmakers like the award-winning cinematographer Christian Berger (Germany, “The White Ribbon”), the acclaimed producer Dr. Matthias Esche (Germany, most recent “Ludwig II”), award-winning director Harutan Khacahtryan (Armenia, “Sahman”), actress Franziska Petri (Germany, “Forget America”) and actor Tambet Tuisk (Estonia, “The Poll Diaries”).

Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, November 15 – December 1, 2013, is one of the largest and most distinctive film events in Northern Europe featuring three full blown competitions: North American films, Heave(i)n Estonian films and Tridens Nordic-Baltic debut films as well as sub-festivals, along with a fully fledged industry program and co-production market. The traditional North American indie films competition is expanding its territorial reach this year and includes Mexican films as well. Industry@Tallinn (Nov 25-29) is a set of film industry oriented events during Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival organized by both the Black Nights Film Festival and Baltic Event.
