European Film Forum kicks off digital debate in Tallinn tomorrow

The debate on the future of Europe’s film and content industries will kick off tomorrow in Tallinn at the historic Theatre NO99 with the year’s last yet largest edition of the European Film Forum conferences. Titled #Digital Future of Film? the two-day conference programmed by the Black Nights Industry Office and supported by the European Commission, which has also backed 45 films in the festival’s program via its Creative Europe arm.

EFFT15 will focus on the continuing impact of digital technology on the film business while highlighting the issues at the core of the digital single market debate - including territoriality, financing, film policy and audience engagement through new formats.

Spearheaded by the European Commission Vice President Andrus Ansip, the anticipated talks include the fireside chat with film and tech visionary David Traub (Jobs), and a discussion with European venture capital investors on the lack of angel investor money to Europe’s film and content business. Altogether the event will see 28 key industry execs from sales, production, investment and tech sectors from Europe and US as well taking the stage.

Running parallel, Digitech Corner will spice up the discussions with engaging power speeches and cutting-edge product demonstrations and pitches from 12 regional startups.

Last minute cancellations include publicist Tatiana Detlofson and previously announced Philip Schlesinger from Glasgow University. The latter will be replaced by former Senior Specialist of Audiovisual Arts and Media and the Associate Professor of Tallinn University, Indrek Ibrus, delivering a summary from the perspective of creative industries policymaking.

Voyelle Acker from France Televisions and Elodie Dupont from The Festival Agency have asked to be excused with kind understanding due to the recent terror events in Paris.

With 200 registered industry participants, the expectations are high for the forum giving significant input for Europe’s future digital roadmap.
