ŽILINA, SLOVAKIA. Attractive, playful, innovative, clever, and entertaining - these and many other attributes define Fest Anča International Animation Festival’s films, workshops, and concerts. The 10th anniversary of the festival will be celebrated from 29 June to 2 July.
“You can meet filmmakers, musicians and artists who lead the creative world. Robert Morgan, the king of animated horror and prestigious BAFTA winner, will attend - whose films go beyond the fear and blood typical of the horror label,” observes programme director Maroš Brojo. “He works perfectly with emotions. We can see a beautiful yet sad story that culminates within us. We feel a gut wrench in the best sense possible – we simultaneously love and fear his heroes.” Film critics describe Robert Morgan's films as a must-see for everyone wanting to make a horror film - not because of what he does, but what he does not.
At our summer anniversary festival you can also meet Paul Bush, the British director who shows that animated film has the power of documentary. You can learn how to create an animated film in which puppets express human emotions from Barry Purves - the master of puppet animation.
At Fest Anča kids can vote for the best film in the International Competition of Films for Kids, and the World Panorama for Kids will show the latest international fairy tales. Families will enjoy feature film screenings such as Long Way North, Kubo and the Two Strings, Oddsockeaters, and Oscar-winning Spirited Away at Andrej Hlinka Square. Fans of Czech fairy tales will enjoy the classic Czech famous bedtime TV series Little Beetles, Rumcajs, the Robber, Bedtime story, and the newest Slovak bedtime series The Tots. The most successful dialogue-free Hungarian kids’ animated films for children will also be screened. And creative workshops are the perfect place to find ideas and inspiration.
Computer game geeks will enjoy our Game Days at the New Synagogue. We will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Fest Anča with leading figures of the independent scene, including Amanita Design developers with their current games and unreleased Chuchel, and the creators of Monument Valley - the extremely popular game which will be presented by Ustwo Games studio’s art director. The Light in Chorus project will be an interesting part of our festival - a debut game produced by two English students using only particle effects as building blocks. At the Slovak Pirates and Young Pioneers exhibition you can play on original Didaktik computers by Didaktik Skalica, games by Slovak creators pre-1993.
And there are interesting presentations, live music projections, concerts and parties too! Very popular segments are the best world animation from international competitions, and night time video mapping on one of the oldest buildings in Žilina - the Church of St. Paul on Marianske Square. To fully enjoy the festival stay overnight at the camping site or at Sokolovňa Gym in Žilina next to Stanica Cultural Centre.
