Third day - 31.05.09 - highlights

12pm - the screening of the film „ Bilal" dir. Sourav Sarangi. MIKRO CINEMA (feature-lenght competition).About the film: Bringing up two unruly boys, each a few years old, is a difficult task. It is even more difficult when the family lives in a very poor district of Kolkatta and struggles to find the means to support themselves.

It is almost impossible if both parents are blind. The camera follows the details of daily life of an Indian family in a friendly and patient way. It is so much different from Bollywood productions, full of glitter and dance, but turns out to be surprisingly optimistic.

1pm - the screening of the national competition. KIJÓW.CENTRUM.

We are going to show the film about Andrzej Wajda directed by Paladino Group and new documentary from Lidia Duda. Lidia Duda, Łukasz Szozda and Piotr Stasik will be present at the screening.

4pm - the screening of the film „Sentenced for Life" dir. Marcin Koszałka (feature-lenght competition). The director will attend the screening and Q&A session. KIJÓW.CENTRUM.

‘Come back to us soon', say the inmates to their friend who is going on a few day leave. The reasons why these women went to jail become irrelevant when confronted with what is happening here and now, which is much more important. Ordinary life goes on behind bars. Women bring up children, work, gossip, plan a wedding ceremony or even meet their future fathers-in-law during visits. The detained women miss their loved ones, dream about the future and treat their time in prison as a threshold in life, after which everything will change.

5pm - the screening of the film „Oblivion" dir. Heddy Honigmann (Krakow Documentary Premieres cycle) POD BARANAMI cinema.

A collection of stories about the residents of Lima, a capital of Peru, where politics is an inherent part of daily life. Top officials have nothing to do with the fair representation of the society which, paradoxically, is suffering from amnesia and keeps voting in disgraced politicians. In this demonstration of mutual forgetfulness ordinary people are the ones who lose, of course. But problems and failures are outshined by their fortitude and discreet dignity.

6pm - combined screening of the national and international competition. The directors will attend the screening and Q&A session . KIJÓW.CENTRUM

The screening of the Polish films qualified for the international competition. Marcel Łoziński, Maciej Drygas, France de Pena, Quay Brothers - those names tell for themselves.

8 pm - the screening of the film „Leningrad - the Man Who Sings" dir. Peter Rippl (Sound of Music cycle). POD BARANAMI cinema.

About the film: Established in 1997 in St. Petersburg, Leningrad is the most recognized underground band in Russia. It gained popularity primarily thanks to its controversial founder, Sergey Shnur. Leningrad has clear compositions; its catchy melodies and simple lyrics appeal both to a simple man and an intellectual. The band concerts are enormous bursts of energy with over twelve musicians on stage giving a true performance.

    pozdrawiam / best regards
