Festivals: Hungarian films conquer Montreal

    Four Hungarian feature films and three shorts are screening at the Montreal Film Festival.

    First time Montreal participant Barnabás Tóth is attending with his debut film Pink cheese (Rózsaszín sajt), a romantic comedy co-written with Frank Rizzo and Dániel Hamvas and starring Tóth in the main role. The film was produced by Filmart (http://www.filmart.hu/) and is a French-Hungarian cooproduction, with a budget of HUF 115 million (EUR 426,000). The producer is Jenő Hábermann. Co-producers are Tamás Tolmár and Dominique Garing. The shooting lasted for 28 days.

    Árpás Sopsits is also returning to the Canadian festival this year. In 2001 he won the main prize for Abandoned (Torzók). He makes another attempt with The Seventh Circle (A hetedik kör). Two other feature contesters are Gergely Fonyó's Made in Hungaria, winner of the Golden Reel of 40th Hungarian Film Festival, and Lost Times (Utolsó idők) from Áron Mátyássy.

    Three Hungarian shorts also at Montreal: The History of Aviation (A repülés története) by Bálint Kenyeres, Backwords (Fordítva) by Dávid Spáh and the Listen to me! (Figyelj rám!), a short animation by Elena Rogova, which was made in Hungary.
