The marathon of short films will start at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, in Měšťanská beseda's small auditorium. Under the name School - Basis of Film Life, CFC will screen shorts appearing on its DVD Czech Short Films Vol. 1, released earlier this year. The 11 shorts selected for the event were produced by four film schools (FAMU - Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague; VŠUP - Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague; VOŠF Zlín - Film School Zlín; and FAMO Písek - the Miroslav Ondříček Film Academy in Písek). Some of the filmmakers will be on hand to present their works.

"The genre of short films is given little attention in the Czech Republic. They are the starting point for all filmmakers, and so working with film schools allows us to track budding filmmakers from the outset of their careers," adds Markéta Šantrochová of CFC.
The annual Panel of Upcoming Feature and Animated Films will open at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 23, in Měšťanská beseda's small auditorium. Czech producers, directors and screenwriters are geared up to present twenty selected projects at the event. Thus, the festival continues to provide a valuable platform for Czech cinema and the nation's film industry. This year's Czech-English brochure, which includes 64 projects in various stages of development, will be available to Panel attendees, as well as distributed to all the festivals at which CFC promotes Czech cinema.
The four-hour panel's purpose is two-fold - it is a place to discover what filmmakers and producers on the Czech film scene are up to, and an excellent network opportunity for filmmakers. "Since the number of debuts just keeps growing and thus there are more and more young, unknown filmmakers every year, we deem this annual gathering as crucial to Czech cinema, and we are delighted that Finále Pilsen has provided this platform for nine years now," says Jana Černík of CFC.
