Eminent guests to present the films of Powell and Pressburger

Thelma Schoonmaker and brothers Andrew and Kevin Macdonald will come to the KVIFF to introduce the films screened in tribute to the legendary creative duo.

Thelma Schoonmaker, world-renowned editor and Martin Scorsese's longtime collaborator, is considered one of the most knowledgeable authorities on the work of Powell and Pressburger. The three-time Oscar winner (Raging Bull, The Aviator, and The Departed) and wife of the late Michael Powell will introduce the Czech Premiere of the digitally restored print of the celebrated The Red Shoes at Karlovy Vary.

Andrew and Kevin Macdonald, grandsons of Hungarian-born screenwriter Emeric Pressburger, will also be among the honored guests at this year's KVIFF. Accomplished British producer Andrew Macdonald worked his magic on the creation of Danny Boyle's Trainspotting, Shallow Grave, and The Beach.

His brother Kevin Macdonald, Oscar-winning director of the documentary One Day in September (1999), gained further renown for the drama The Last King of Scotland and for the thriller State of Play starring Russell Crow and Ben Affleck. He is the author of a biography on his grandfather entitled Emeric Pressburger: The Life and Death of a Screenwriter.
