Why should Film Funds support minority co-productions?

Prague, July 1, 2010 - During the 45TH edition of the Karlovy Vary international film festival the Czech Film Center organizes the panel discussion WHY SHOULD FILM FUNDS SUPPORT MINORITY CO-PRODUCTIONS. The discussion will be held on Monday, July 5th at 12:00 at Press Conference Hall, Hotel Thermal.

This year, for the first time since its inception, the Council of the Czech State Fund for the Support and Development of Czech Cinematography has allocated €1 million for supporting minority co-productions. Most EU member states have had support mechanisms for minority co-productions, whether regional or national funds, for a number of years. The long-term goal of these funds is to stimulate the country's national cinema and film industry. One way to achieve this stimulation is to support minority projects with resources from regional or national funds.
Their visions, specific experiences and the benefits of minority co-productions for the AV sector in Central Europe will discuss
Přemysl Šoba (Czech State Fund for the Support and Development of Czech Cinematography)
Peter Zawrel (Filmfond Wien, Austria)
Christiane Sommer (Filmförderungsanstalt, Germany) and
Robert Baliński (Polish Film Institute, Poland).
The panel discussion will be moderated by producer Simone Baumann (LE Visionen, Germany).
Please find attached some basic information on the support on minority co-productions and the invitation for the pane discussion.
