FNE at Connecting Cottbus: The Son

By

COTTBUS: Bosnia and Herzegovina teams up with Croatia and funding from Macedonia for director Ines Tanovic’s contemporary Sarajevo tale The Son presented at Connecting Cottbus.

The story, which Tanovic also wrote, looks at an adopted son who struggles with his identity and his place in his family as he moves into adulthood. It metaphorically parallels Sarajevo’s own search for its identity in the new post-war reality. The Son will be her second feature film. Her debut film is Bosnia and Herzegovina’s official Oscar entry.

The film is produced by Alem Babic of Dokument Sarajevo with a projected budget of 585,000 EUR. Croatia’s Spiritus Movens is coproducing. Dokument Sarajevo is a regular producer of Tanovic’s films. The film has received 20,000 EUR in development support from the Film Fund Sarajevo and a CineLink award through the Macedonian Film Agency. The producer and director were at Connecting Cottbus seeking German and Balkan region coproducers.
