SARAJEVO: Serbian writer/director Nikola Ljuca will be presenting his next project The Heroes Were Dancing at the CineLink Co-production Market, set to take place 17-18 August 2016, during the 22nd Sarajevo Film Festival (12-20 August 2016)

The Heroes Were Dancing is a story about two couples: fitness instructor Goran and his wife Marija, and Marko, the co-owner of the upscale Belgrade gym, and his wife Ana. The two couples in their mid- to late twenties start forming peculiar bonds while they sink deeper into quick sands made of secrets, hidden sexualities and moral and political ambiguities.

With the title recalling the traditional patriotic Serbian song The Heroes Were Dancing / Igrale se delije, which celebrates heroism and the upheaval against the Ottoman Empire, but is often identified with hooliganism and nationalism, Ljuca wishes to address the problems and dualism that the younger generation is facing in Serbia.

The film is produced by Dart Film with an estimated budget of 670,000 EUR. For now, only 25,000 EUR is in place, provided as a minimum guarantee by MCF distribution.

Producers Nataša Damnjanović and Vladimir Vidić, who also produced Ljuca's previous works, are just starting the process of securing funds and finding partners, and they hope they will be able to start shooting by the end of 2018. If everything goes as planned, The Heroes were Dancing should have its world premiere in 2019/2020.

Nikola Ljuca’s debut feature Humidity (2016, Dart) premiered in the 2016 Berlin International Film Festival’s Forum.
