VIENNA: Daria Onyshchenko's nostalgic Eastalgia will open the second edition of the nine-day LET'S CEE FF, launching 13 September in Vienna.

The fest focuses exclusively on "high-quality productions from Central and Eastern Europe," organizer's told FNE, including the Caucasus region and Turkey. This's year's selection will showcase around 50 productions from the region and guests include Academy Award winners Branko Lustig, Allan Starski and Istvan Szabo, as well venerated Russian director Alexander Sokurov.

Eastalgia, a co-production between Serbia, Germany and the Ukraine, is produced by Neusuper (www.neuesuper.de), 435 Films (www.435films.com.ua) and See Film Pro, typifying the cross-border collaborations feted. “Productions such as this one, which brought together a team of people from half of the CEE region, have become a trademark of sorts for our festival,” said the organizers in a statement.

Eight features compete in the main section; seven films screen in the shorts section; and the documentary sidebar features six films. Two retrospectives and highlights such as Eisenstein's classic Battleship Potemkin, accompanied live by the band Russkaja) and other series complete the program. The competition program is curated by the Polish film critic Tomasz Raczek
