Bulgarian Union of Film Makers Elects New President

By

SOFIA: Ivan Pavlov has been elected president of the Union of the Bulgarian Film Makers.

He replaces eminent film director Georgy Stoyanov (The Penleve Case, Birds and Greyhounds, Cricket in the Ear) who headed the union for the last three years. Pavlov, who was elected at the 26 September 2013 General Assembly, is also a well-known film director (Mass Miracle, Hanging with an Angel, Fate as a Rat).

Pavlov told FNE that following his election he will leave his post as director of the Bulgarian National Film Archive. “I am convinced that my experience as a long time former president of the UBFM from 2004 till 2010 will be useful to the process of reforms that have yet to happen in the Bulgarian film industry,” Pavlov said.

The UBFM, with over 850 members, also elected a new management board consisting of 15 members. The board members were proposed by each of the ten professional guilds before the start of the election procedure. The new board includes four film directors, two producers, two script writers, three film critics, one actor, one art designer and one editor.
The UBFM has also organized and supervised the National Film Academy since 2010.
