Bulgaria Sets 2014 Film Funding

    SOFIA: The Bulgarian National Film Center will distribute 12.7 m BGN (6.5 m EUR) in film funding in 2014.

    Of the total, 80% will go to film production, 10% to distribution and 5% to promotion. The last 5% will be dedicated to films related to national events and commemorations of notable Bulgarians.

    Two feature films competition calls will allocate 10 m BGN (5.1 m EUR). The maximum amount for a feature film will be 1.1 m BNG (570,000 EUR).

    Unlike previous years debutant directors will be allowed to apply separately and compete for a maximum amount of 620,000 BGN (317,000 EUR) per project.

    The public support for young short film directors, established last year will increase from 30,000 BGN (15,000 EUR) to 50,000 BGN (26,000 EUR). The feature film development support will remain at 25,000 BGN (13,000 EUR).

    In four competition calls the NFC will allocate 1.6 m BGN (818,000 EUR) to Bulgarian companies participating in European coproductions as minority coproducers. Each session will dispense 400,000 BGN (205,000 EUR). The maximum amount for feature coproductions is fixed to 330,000 BGN (169,000 EUR).

    The documentary support will be also allocated in two calls with 650,000 BGN (332,000 EUR) per call. The maximum full length documentary support will be 118,000 BGN (60,000 EUR).

    Animated films will funded in two rounds of 600,000 BGN (307,000 EUR) each. The maximum amount per animated minute will be 8,800 BGN (4,500 EUR).

    Once a year, the NFC will support national coproductions with TV broadcasters. The maximum amount for that will be 100,000 BNG (51,000 EUR).
