SOFIA: Bulgarian director/scriptwriter Ivan Cherkelov is in postproduction with Family Relics, a drama unfolding through three intertwined subplots, which is set to be released at the end of 2015.

Cherkelov revealed to the Bulgarian press, that the film “will explore bizarre types of family life and the main six roles in it will be of equal importance.”

The three stories revolve around a middle-aged couple taking a ride in a forest, a young girl who just broke up with her boyfriend and two brothers trying to visit their alcoholic father in a clinic. Most of the shooting took place in the Rhodope Mountain forests in the summer of 2014. „It was continuously raining and the location became almost a nightmare”, producer Galina Toneva told FNE. Known for his passion for India, Cherkelov also shot for a week in Vrindavan, not far from New Delhi.

Only two actors from the cast, Jana Karaivanova and Andrey Andreev, both living and working in the US, are professional actors. The cast also includes Gloria Petkova, Alexander Belev, Blaje Dimitrov and Venzislav Zankov. Rali Raltchev is the DoP.

Galina Toneva and Kiril Kirilov are producing through Gala Film with a budget of 800,000 EUR, of which nearly 640,000 EUR were provided by the Bulgarian National Film Centre. The Bulgarian National Television has already acquired the broadcasting rights.
