VARNA: Ventsislav Vasilev’s debut feature Snow will vie in the main competition of the 33rd Golden Rose National Film Festival (6-11October 2015). The first Bulgarian/Ukrainian coproduction was also selected for the international competition of the 31st Warsaw Film Festival (9-18 October 2015).

The film tells the story of a young criminal Bobby, who is kept in a correctional school. When his father suddenly passes away, Bobby receives a one-week leave. Returning home in a cold snowy winter he meets his father's half-brother and his son. Both of them are brutal and harsh. After a series of disappointments Bobby has to decide which way to take.

For scriptwriter/director Ventsislav Vassilev Snow is a very personal film. He told the Bulgarian media that it is related both to his father and to his home town of Pernik. The cast includes Plamen Velikov, Ovanes Torosyan, Krasimir Dokov and the famous Ukrainian actor Vladimir Yamnenko.

The film was shot in Pernik from mid-September of 2013 to the end of January 2014. As the action takes place in different seasons, shooting was split into three chuncks. Snow machines were used in order to compensate for the lack of natural snow.

The films was produced by Bulgaria’s 100 Film in coproduction with Ukraine’s National Cinematheque. Bulgaria’s Magic Mount is the national coproducer. Bulgarian National Film Center supported the project with nearly 300,000 EUR. Domestic release has not been announced yet.
