Increased Popularity of Bulgarian Short Films Portal

By

SOFIA: Bulgaria’s independent online portal NoBlink! Media, focusing on short films, is enjoying a growing interest among audiences. It has released over 40 fiction, documentary and animated short films since its launch on 25 April 2016.

“NoBlink! had 62,841 visitors and 23,800 viewers in the first three months. In Bulgaria almost 100 short films are produced every year, but hardly anybody knows anything about them. Therefore, we decided to bring the best of them to a broader audience”, Nicky Stoichkov, co-CEO of NoBlink!, told FNE.

The portal was initiated by a group of 19 students, of whom ten met at the Nеw Bulgarian University’s Masterclass led by eminent film director Georgi Djulgerov. Djulgerov encouraged them by giving them the rights for his short film The Suitcase (2007).

In order to help the young entrepreneurs, the Ministry of Culture granted 1,500 EUR to NoBlink!, while the National Palace of Culture is welcoming them for free for short film events.

“Up to now we acquired the rights for independent films and very soon we will be able to show films supported by the Bulgarian NFC. Successful directors like Pavel Vesnakov, Toma Washarov and Hristo Simeonov already agreed to show some of their most awarded films online”, says Stoichkov.
