GRANTS: Bulgaria Announces Second Production Grants for 2017

    SOFIA: The Bulgarian National Film Center allotted 1,856,000 EUR / 3,630,000 BGN in its second session at the end of November 2017. Nine projects, including three feature films with higher budgets, one feature film with a lower budget, one debut feature and three short films, received production funding. The development of four feature films was also supported.

    The amount of 1,211,780 EUR / 2,370,000 BGN will be split between As For The Last directed by Ivailo Penchev (Urban Media), Don’t Go into Quarrel with the Bathroom Staff directed by Ivan Cherkelov (Nak-Zak Vision) and February directed by Kamen Kalev (Waterfront Film).

    A low budget feature film 1979, directed by Dimitar Petkov and produced by ARS, expects to receive 281,142 EUR / 550,000 BGN, while the debut feature Dante’s Paradise, directed by Dimitar Radev and produced by Premierstudio Plus, will receive 219,802 EUR / 430,000 BGN.

    A total of 93,034 EUR / 180,000 BGN was announced for the short films, while 51,130 EUR / 100,000 BNG will go to script development.

    At this stage, all projects are approved by the NFC selective committee, but in order to determine the final amounts of grants, the NFC requires producers to assure the total financing of their films. It is not excluded that some producers might receive different amounts than expected.
