Bulgaria Buys Turkish Soaps

By FNE Staff

Bulgaria has become the largest European buyer of Turkish soap operas, according to a Bulgarian National Radio report. Bulgaria acquired 27 Turkish soaps, followed by Macedonia with 17.

Bulgaria's Novinte reports that the price of Turkish soaps now cost from $500 to $20,000 per hour, up from $30 - $50 when Bulgaria began buying the soaps.

A Turkish representative said that support by the state to the TV sector, to encourage promotion of Turkish culture abroad, resulted in an increase in the quality of the production.

The popularity of Turkish soaps has yet to spread to some neighboring territories such as Romania.
