PRODUCTION: Croatian Doc Receives Romanian Funding

By FNE Staff

Croatian documentary film Gangster Loves You by director Nebojša Slijepčević and produced by Restart and Fade In received a grant of €26,000 from the Romanian National Film Fund CNC (Centrui National ai Cinematografiei) through Romanian co-producer, Subcultura production company managed by Florin Iepan.

Gangster Loves You received 70,000 kn (€9.500) in co-funding from the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (www.hvac.hr).

The film is in preproduction and will shoot July through December 2011. The film will complete postproduction in mid-2012 and expects to go into theatrical distribution shortly thereafter.

The film follows Nedjeljko Babić who quits his job laying parquet floors to pursue the career he was born for - matchmaking, helping lonely men and women meet. His success comes complete with a catchy nickname - Gangster - as he soon makes a name for himself and his Nada agency in Imotski. Gangster Loves You follows the protagonist in his attempts to marry off some of his clients.

"One fascinating thing about Gangster is his exceptionality and ability to express deep thoughts in a simple and funny way. The project has so far been fabulously received at international presentations around Europe," Slijepčević said.

Slijepčević is a young director from Zagreb, best known for his youth serial Direkt. He made his debut with the short live action film Šamar in the omnibus Zagrebačke priče (2009). His short documentary Za 4 godine won the EDN Talent Grant at the 2007 Sarajevo Film Festival.
