Guilt bows at international screenings

    Guilt, the Cypriot-Greek coproduction directed by Vassilis Mazomenos has been chosen to screen at the next Montreal Film Festival before heading to Athens in a tribute to Cyprus film.

    Guilt is being screened in the Focus on World Cinema section in Montreal.

    Mazomenos' film, dealing with the nightmares of a Cypriot arms dealer during a crucial period in Cyprus' history (the British occupation, Cyprus Independence, and the Turkish invasion), has also been chosen to officially open the Panorama of European Cinema Film Festival, taking place in Athens from October 22 to November 1, as part of the celebrations of the 50 years since the declaration of the Republic of Cyprus.

    The President of the Republic of Cyprus is expected to attend the opening. Part of the festival is a tribute the Cinema of Cyprus accompanier by a big exhibition of stills and posters to be mounted at the recently built Michael Cacoyiannis Foundation which will be opening for the first time in October.
