FAMU, Prague’s Acclaimed Film School, Now Accepting Applications

    FAMU, Prague's national film academy and one of Europe's oldest and most famous film schools, has opened the application process for its English-language international programmes. FAMU (www.famu.cz), located in a historic landmark palace in the heart of Prague, offers one-, two- and three-year intensive programmes.

    FAMU's famed faculty and alumni have made it a leading destination for film students, earning FAMU a coveted top ranking in the Hollywood Reporter's list of the best film schools in the world, naming it the best film school in Europe. FAMU alumni include Oscar-winners Miloš Forman, Jiří Menzel and Jan Svěrák; current Oscar nominee Agnieszka Holland; Cannes laureates Emir Kusturica, Vojtěch Jasný, and numerous other nominees; literary giants Milan Kundera and Václav Havel among others; and the legendary directors Věra Chytilová and Jan Němec, who are currently directing professors. The cinematography faculty includes Directors of Photography from three Oscar-winning films.

    The presence of so many luminaries on its faculty has had an impressive effect on FAMU students, whose student films are often
    selected for Cannes, the Student Oscars, the CILECT prize and other prestigious festivals such as the Berlinale, Clermont-Ferrand, and Nyons.

    FAMU fosters these impressive results by maintaining its tradition of mentor-based, practical instruction with regular one-to-one
    consultations, hands-on training, and small classes, aided by a faculty of well over 100 professors and instructors. It combines its
    proven training method with modern facilities. FAMU's fully-equipped studio and sound stages supplement Prague's inspiring exterior
    locations. Students have the possibility of shooting on 35mm, 16mm, Digi-Beta, HD, and even 4K. The FAMU Screening Room is equipped for all formats, and boasts the best digital projector in Prague. The rich history of filmmaking is also an important part of the FAMU tradition, with a video library that includes over 15 000 titles.

    FAMU International provides a vibrant, creative and intellectual atmosphere, packed with talented students from around the globe - all passionately engaged in hands-on filmmaking, while receiving instruction in English from a world class faculty of teachers. FAMU
    also has established partnerships with other leading film schools. American partner schools sending top students for intensive study at FAMU include: NYU - Tisch, Emerson College, CalArts, Syracuse, American University, the University of Miami and the CIEE and CET academic consortiums.

    FAMU International offers the following programmes:

    Academy Program: one year of intensive filmmaking and inspiring instruction, with a major-focus on:
    Directing, Cinematography, Non-Fiction Filmmaking, or Screenwriting

    Special Productions:
    One semester production at FAMU Studio of a professional-level showpiece
    35mm Cinematography
    16mm Directing

    MFA Program in English (Cinema and Digital Media)
    Two to three years of intensive study culminating in a
    Masters in Directing, Cinematography or Screenwriting

    BFA and MFA Programs in still photography
