The Law was vetoed by the President Vaclav Klaus in November this year. This was already the second veto by the Czech President of the same law. Since the first veto in 2006 the President continues to affirm that he does not see any reason to favour film business over other comparable sectors of the economy.

Czech industry professionals expect the parliament to override the veto and for the law to pass.

On the same day, 18 December, in the frame of the debate about the state budget, the long expected decision about the amount for tax incentives, supporting film production in Czech Republic, will be taken. Last year it was 300m CZK. If the new law goes ahead, the incentives will no longer be administered by the Ministry of Culture, instead the Cinematography fund will take over this function. One of the positive changes expected is that the incentives should become transferable from one year to the next to allow a continuous project.
