Protector announces film start and cast

    Director Marek Najbrt‘s CZK62 million (€2.6 million) Protector, one of the most anticipated Czech films of 2009, will start filming in early September.

    The drama of Jewish actress Hana and her husband, radio reporter Emil Vrbata, who became a Nazi collaborator in Prague during the Nazi occupation from 1939 - 1942, received a record grant of €673,000 from the Czech State Fund for Support and Development of Czech Cinematography.

    "We were very happy to get more than a quarter budget from Czech state fund. It helped a lot with the pre-production work," said Pavel Strnad, whose company Negativ (www.negativ.cz) produces the movie.

    Co-producers Include Czech Television (www.ceskatelevize.cz), Soundsquare (www.soundsquare.cz) and UPP (www.upp.cz).

    Screenwriters Robert Geisler and Benjamin Tucek described the story as a full-bodied combination of a war drama and psycho-thriller. Marek Daniel, recently seen in the debut of Vaclav Havel´new play Leaving, and Jana Plodkova star.

    The movie is plan to release in September 2009.
