PRODUCTION: Negativ Finishes Filming on Fair Play

By

PLZEN: Fair Play, a Communist era sports drama written and directed by Andrea Sedlackova, completes filming on Monday, 30 April 2013, and moves into postproduction on Tuesday.

The central character is a young athlete selected for the euphemistically-named “Programme of Specialized Care,” the doping programme for Olympic hopefuls. When the young woman finds she has been doped without her knowledge, she refuses to continue; however, her mother, seeing the Olympics as their chance to emigrate, surreptitiously continues the doping.

The 35 m CZK film, participating at the Upcoming Czech Films presentation which took place at the Finale Plzen festival of Czech films, is a Czech/German/Slovak coproduction from Negativ under producers Katerina Cerna and Pavel Strnad, Slovakia’s Arina Film, Czech Televize, Barrandov Studios and Germany’s Deoartyre Films.

Filming, which began in 2012, took place in Chemnitz, Dresden, Bratislava and Prague, and on location in the Slovak mountains. The theatrical release is scheduled for spring 2014.

Fair Play stars Judit Bardos, Eva Josefikova, Ana Geislerova, and Roman Luknar. The DoP is Jan Baset Stritezsky and the editor is Jakub Hejna.
