Prague: MIDPOINT, an international educational project aimed at supporting talent and development in European screenwriting, culminated at Prague's FAMU film school this weekend with honors for best projects.

The award for the best feature screenplay went to the project Magda H. by Terézia Simanová and Barbora Berezňáková, VŠMU Bratislava graduates, and producer Peter Badač from FAMU. Magda H., the story of the intriguing and talented Magda Lokvencová-Husáková, the first wife of Czechoslovak “normalization” president Gustav Husák,  reveals unknown chapters from her dramatic life. Czech Television showed interest in the project during the pitching forum.

The 4-year-old MIDPOINT programme, initiated by FAMU in collaboration with film schools in Bratislava, Lodz, Berlin, Bucharest and Budapest, has already had concrete results. Recently Hungary's The Land of Storms, a 2010 participant in Midpoint completed last year by director Ádám Császi, appeared in this year´s lineup of Berlin-based world sales agent M-appeal for Cannes´ Marché du film.

The next Midpoint workshop, called “Training the Trainers,” is for teachers; Dramaturgy workshops for Czech and Slovak filmmakers will follow in the beginning of October.
