Czechs Weigh Lawsuit against National Geographic TV

By

PRAGUE: An inflammatory programme presented as a documentary on crime in Prague could lead to a civil lawsuit by the City of Prague against the National Geographic Channel.

The programme, part of the first season of the Scam City series which began airing in June 2012, was followed by a 2013 investigation by Prague police into the allegations involving prostitution, blackmail, taxi fraud and overpricing. The investigation revealed that the documentary featured paid actors in scenes that were staged involving businesses or locations that had been closed or no longer existed at the time of the filming. The results of the investigation were reported on TV Prima earlier this week.

According to news reports, the City of Prague could sue the U.S. network, owned by National Geographic Television & Film and the Fox Cable Networks, for defamation of character.
