Burning Bush Fires up Czech Critics

    PRAGUE: Agnieszka Holland’s acclaimed film version of Burning Bush won six awards, including Best film of 2013, at the fourth Czech Critics Awards on 25 January 2014.

    Burning Bush was the favorite going in, nominated in all ten of the categories for which it was eligible. The 42 journalists, voting in two rounds, considered 26 feature and animated films and 16 long documentaries. Awards were handed to the other two leading films nominated in the best film category, Like Never Before directed by Zdenek Tyc with six nominations and two wins, and Clownwise directed by Viktor Taus with four nominations and one win.

    Burning Bush won best director for Agnieszka Holland, best photography for Martin Strba, best original music for Antoni Komasa-Lazarkiewicz, best actress in a supporting role for Jaroslava Pokorna, and best script for the screenplay for its young writer Stephen Hulík. Hulik was a double winner, taking home the award for discovery of the year.
