Czechs Launch Filmmakers Lounge at KVIFF

    PRAGUE: The State Cinematography Fund´s new Filmmakers’ lounge located in the café of Čas cinema, T. G. Masaryka 3, will offer a new pleasant meeting point for film professionals during Karlovy Vary IFF.

    The lounge will serve as a place for both business meetings and informal coffee breaks or a late night drinks.

    The official opening is planned for Saturday, 5 July at 4 p.m. by Helena Bezděk Fraňková, the director of the State Cinematography Fund, the director of KVIFF, Krištof Mucha and the artistic director Karel Och. The lounge will be open daily from 10 a.m.

    As a part of the KVIFF industry programme, three panel discussions will take place at the Filmmaker´s lounge:

    FNE Coproduction Meeting - Wednesday 9 July, 3 to 5 p.m.

    Four international coproductions from the region and participants including the heads of the regional film funds and film producers will discuss how to increase the number of successful coproductions from the region. The event will be moderated by FNE news editor Cathy Meils.

    Does a film need a distributor? -  Thursday 10 July, 2 to 4 p.m.

    The representatives of Czech productions and distribution companies will discuss the problems of todays´ film distribution and its relations to production. The guests are Aleš Danielis from Cinemart, Ivo Andrle from Aerofilms and Pavel Strnad from Negativ. Michal Bregant, the director of National Film Archive will host the discussion.

    What will the new State Cinematography Funds´ Council be like?  - Friday 11 July 4 to 6 p.m.

    The current Council´s mandate will end in April 2015. The new Council of the State Cinematography Fund will be elected according to the new Czech film law.

    Helena Bezděk Fraňková, the director of the State Cinematography Fund, Petr Vítek, the chairman of the Council, and Adam Dvořák from APA will discuss the details. The discussion will be moderated by Czech film journalist Tomáš Baldýnský.
