    KARLOVY VARY: Animated director Jan Balej gave industry pros the first look at the upcoming animated puppet film Little from the Fish Shop which has completed the production phase after 410 days of shooting.

    The 1.7 m EUR film which is based on the Hans Christian Andersen children’s classic The Little Mermaid, is expected to be completed by the end of 2014. The film is now in the digital postproduction stage.

    Balej and his team were in Karlovy Vary to celebrate the end of filming with a presentation and cocktail.

    The story by Balej and Ivan Arsenjev has the Sea King and his daughter Little abandoning their home under the sea to live on land in the seaport city of Hamburg where they lead a tedious life at a fish shop until Little falls in love.

    The Czech/Slovak/French coproduction is produced by Miracle Film and coproduced by Slovakia’s Marlen Media Group, Filmpark, Czech Television, Jan Balej – Hafan Film, Studio Bystrouska, Emita Investments CZ, and Les Trois Ours from France. It received 8 m CZK funding from the Czech State Cinematographic Fund, 90,000 EUR from the Slovak Audiovisual Fund (AVF) and 250,000 from Eurimages. The film will also get 20 % in film incentives for Czech spend.

    The DoP is Martin Prochazka and the editor is Patrik Pass.
