    Czech Culture Minister Announces Funding for Digital Film Restoration Jiri Trnka’s 1953 animated puppet film Old Czech Legends.

    KARLOVY VARY: The Czech Minister of Culture Daniel Herman was in Karlovy Vary to announce new funding for the digital restoration of Czech films. Funding is expected to be in the range of 2 m CZK per year for the next three years.

    In addition, the Czech National Film Archives will receive a 1 m EUR grant from a Norwegian fund to digitally restore ten Czech films “in the highest possible quality,” NFA director Michal Bregant told FNE.

    Other projects and funding are also in the works. The Czech Cinematography Fund has decided for the first time to fund the full digital restoration of a film, Tomas Vorel’s Smoke. Finally, the NFA, the Ministry of Culture and the Plzen City of Culture 2015 have joined forces on a project to digitally restore Jiri Trnka’s 1953 animated puppet film Old Czech Legends.
