PRAGUE: The acclaimed international hit Ida opened in cinemas in the Czech Republic on 17 July 2014 simultaneously with its VoD release.

The film was released through Aerofilms. Aerofilms spokesperson Jiri Sebesta told FNE, “We are becoming more and more satisfied as people learn how VoD works.” He said this was the third film the company had released on a day and date scheme, and the company had also tried releasing films with shorter release windows (from one week to one month VoD release after the theatrical release) on three or four other films.

“VoD will be very important in the future,” he said. “People are becoming more used to paying for films online.”

The cinema ticket price is 4 EUR and the VoD streaming price is 2.50 EUR. After one month the film will also be available for VoD download at a price of 3 EUR.

Ida is a Danish-Polish drama directed by Paweł Pawlikowski and starring Agata Kulesza and Agata Trzebuchowska. It is Danish Polish coproduction from Phoneix Fillm and Opus Film in association with Portobello Pictures (UK). It was supported by the Polish Film Institute.
