OBITUARY: Oscar Winner Karel Cerny

    PRAGUE: Czech production designer and art director Karel Cerny, who won an Oscar in 1985 for Amadeus, died 5 September 2014 at age 92.

    Cerny was one of eight Oscar winners for the film by Milos Forman. He previously worked on films Forman directed in Prague, including The Fireman’s Ball and Loves of a Blonde.

    His extensive list of film and TV credits also included the groundbreaking Karel Zeman film The Journey to the Beginning of Time. In 2013 he won the Czech Lion for lifetime achievement.
