PRODUCTION: Czech TV Shoots Charles IV Biopic

By

PRAGUE: After the historic trilogy Jan Hus, Czech TV started another big production last week, Charles IV – The Vote for the Roman King. The film is directed by Vaclav Křístek and will have the premiere in 2016 on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the birth of Charles IV.

„Karel IV is seen as the father of Czechs, the founder of the first Czech University and the builder of Prague and its most important monuments. However not many people know how complicated his life was before becoming the ruler of the Czech throne and of the Roman Empire. His 700th birthday will be the ideal opportunity to map his life from childhood to coronation in a historical TV film, says Jan Maxa, the creative producer of the film.

Kryštof Hádek was cast as the king and Tereza Voříšková as his wife, Blanka from Valois. Charles IV- The Vote for the Roman King is shot in several Czech historic sites including the castle of Švihov, Kost, Cuknštejn, Točník, Zvíkov and Pernštejn. The film is using almost 1,000 actors, extras and stuntmen.
