PRAGUE: Czech production designer Martin Kurel is the first Czech to receive the French national film award César. Xavier Giannoli‘s period drama Marguerite, nominated in 11 categories, received four awards for leading actress, production design, costumes and sound.

Marguerite, a French/Czech coproduction directed by Xavier Giannoli, which was almost entirely shot in the Czech Republic, is a period drama inspired by the real-life tale of the doomed soprano singer Florence Foster Jenkins.

The film was produced by French Fidélité Films and coproduced by Belgium's Scope Pictures and Sirena Film, the line producer on the Czech side.

Marguerite has been a hit in France, with more than 1 m admissions and it will also be released in the UK by Picturehouse in March 2016. The Césars gala took place in Paris on 26 February 2016.
