PRAGUE: Six Czech films are holding on to their spots in the top 20 at the local box office, with several in their sixth and seventh weeks in distribution. They are comprised of a diverse mix of genres, including fairy tale, drama, romantic comedy and animation.

Holding on to the number three spot in its sixth week in distribution is the Jiri Bartoska starrer, Teorie Tygra / Tiger’s Theory directed by Radek Bajgar, a Czech TV production that has already pulled in some 1 m EUR (26 m CZK) and nearly 200,000 admissions.

Following it is the romantic comedy How to Get Rid of A Wife directed by Tomas Svoboda and produced by Art Movie Production with over 56,000 admissions and box office of nearly 6 m CZK.

The longest lasting film has been one of the enduring staples of Czech film, a fairy tale, Rachanda directed by Marta Ferencova and produced by Apfel Production. The film, which had a budget of 1.4 m EUR, has earned back roughly half of that (18.5 m CZK) with 153,000 admissions after 11 weeks in cinemas, and made it back into the top 20, rising to 18th place, after dropping to 27th place a week earlier.
