    PRAGUE: Czech animator Adolf Born, best known for the Mach and Sebestova TV series, died on 22 May at the age of 85.

    He was born in the South Bohemian city of Ceske Budejovice on 12 June 1930. In 2013 he received the award for lifelong contribution to animation at the Czech festival Anifilm. His films were awarded at international festivals in Bilbao, Krakow and Tampere, as well as at Fantasporto.

    His most celebrated film was the 1981 short film Inferiority Complex / Mindrak, a comedy about a dog who can read, listens to classical music and speaks a foreign language, and his primitive master who feels threatened by the dog and tries to get rid of it.

    Born was also a painter and illustrator, and he received Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters from France.
