PRAGUE: Following their successful coproduction projects – the TV series Jan Hus by Jiří Svoboda and Life According to Vaclav Havel by Andrea Sedláčková – Czech TV and the French-German cultural channel ARTE will begin production on My Uncle Archimedes.

The film will be directed by Georgis Agathonikiadis.

The story takes place in 1940´s and 1950´s, the period of the important wave of Greek emigration to Czechoslovakia. The Greek Archimedes and the Czech Karel, despite the major differences, become real friends. Ondřej Vetchý and Miroslav Donutil are cast in the lead roles.

The shooting will start in mid-June.

“For coproductions with international partners, we are always looking for subjects and authors which could be interesting and speak to the European audience as a whole. After projects about Vaclav Havel and Jan Hus, we are for preparing a project about Tomas Bata and a story about Greek emigrants in Czechoslovakia,” said Petr Dvořák, General Director of Czech TV. “The connection with the ARTE cultural channel means not only a prestigious partnership for Czech TV but it also brings new audiences and considerable financial investments. Thanks to them our projects can be much more ambitious in many ways.”

The cooperation with ARTE, which started in 2013, has brought an investment of more than 20 m CZK (750,000 EUR) to Czech TV. Negotiations about new projects are in progress.
