By

KARLOVY VARY: Eight young-career film professionals from Central and Eastern Europe have been selected for the 2016 edition of SOFA, the School for Film Agents taking place in Wroclaw 19-28 August.

SOFA founder Nikolaj Nikitin announced the participants at the 51st Karlovy Vary IFF running through 9 July. The training programme is designed to actively support the development of projects that structurally strengthen national film industries and cinematic landscapes in Europe. SOFA helps its participants to develop their ideas into a concrete project package ready for application to funding sources so they become reality.

“Promoting film education, creating alternative ways for film distribution and audience development as well as maintaining Europe’s cinematographies – these main goals propel the eight up-and-coming film agents who we have selected for the fourth SOFA edition,” Nikitin said.

The selected participants and their projects included Terezie Krizkovska of the Czech Republic with the project NaFilM – National Film Museum; Ineza Ivanova of Lithuania with the project Baltic View – Online & Cinema Space; Tekla Machavariani of Georgia with the project Nushi – Film Media Package; and Magdalena Puzmujzniak of Poland with the project FULL SPECTRUM International Film Festival. Other participants come from Albania, Belarus, the Ukraine and Moldova.
