PRAGUE: British/Czech/French coproduction Anthropoid by Sean Ellis, starring Cillian Murphy and Jamie Dornan, had 2,515,408 EUR gross in the US since opening on 12 August 2016. The WWII drama about the assassination of Nazi General Reinhard Heydrich will open in the Czech Republic on 28 September 2016, a national holiday in the country.

"We are extremely pleased that Anthropoid attracted viewers in the United States and achieved great attendance results, and that it has a strong distributor for non-US territory. Thanks to Buena Vista International, Anthropoid will be seen by viewers in Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, but also throughout Latin America, Australia or New Zealand,” executive producer David Ondříček from the Prague based Lucky Man Films told the Czech media.

In the US the film was released by Bleecker Street. Falcon will distribute it in the Czech Republic. The film will open theatrically in UK cinemas on 9 September 2016 and had its world premiere as the opening film at the 51st Karlovy Vary IFF in 2016.

Anthropoid was produced by LD Entertainment in coproduction with Lucky Man Films, and was shot in and around Prague, on the actual locations where the historical events took place. The interiors were filmed at Barrandov Studios, where a replica of the Cyril and Methodius church where a lot of the action takes place was constructed.

Cillian Murphy and Jamie Dornan are playing the Czechoslovak parachutists Jozef Gabčík and Jan Kubiš. The Czech cast members include Czech stars Anna Geislerová and Karel Roden. Anthropoid is inspired by the true story of Operation Anthropoid and the assassination of SS General Reinhard Heydrich, who was the Nazi Protector of Bohemia and Moravia during the WWII.
