FNE at KVIFF 2017: Prize Winners: CEE Films Sweep Awards

    KARLOVY VARY: The Czech/Slovak and Italian coproduction Little Crusader directed by Václav Kadrnka took home the Crystal Globe and a cash prize of 25,000 USD at the 52 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival held from 30 June to 8 July in Czech spa town of Karlovy Vary.

    Films from Central and Eastern Europe made a clean sweep of all top awards in the main competition with productions and coproductions from Czechia, Slovakia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Georgia, Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Croatia taking home all the top prizes. Critics and festival goers agreed it was a bumper year for talent in the region.

    The FIPRESCI International Critics Prize went to Keep the Change (USA) directed by Rachel Israel, while the hotly followed daily ratings of the films in the Main Competition and East of the West organised by FNE and FIPRESCI gave its highest marks in the main competition to the German/Israeli film The Cakemaker directed by Ofir Raul Graizer and in the East of the West the top film was the Georgian film Dede, a coproduction with Qatar, Ireland, Netherlands and Croatia directed by Mariam Khatchvani.
