GRANTS: Prague Film Fund Supports Four Foreign Projects Including New Xavier Dolan Project

    PRAGUE: The Prague Film Fund is distributing 203,000 EUR / 5.3 m CZK to four international projects coming from India, Canada, France and Germany it its first call. The fund will support three feature films and one TV film, including the new project by Xavier Dolan.

    Due to the great interest of applicants, the fund plans to open another call in 2017 and also to consider increasing the total amount of support in 2018 to 766,000 EUR / 20 m CZK.

    The applying projects have to confirm foreign theatrical or TV distribution and also to show Prague as itself in a film, not as a stand-in for another city. A total of 18 applications were submitted.

    The supported projects are: The Ring (working title) / Jab Harry met Sejal (India) directed by Imtiaz Ali, The Death and Life of John F. Donovan (Canada) directed by Xavier Dolan, Tout le monde debout (France) directed by Franck Dubosc and the TV film Ein Sommer in Prag (Germany) directed by Karola Meeder and produced for ZDF.

    Jab Harry met Sejal was already shot in Prague in August 2016 and will open at the beginning of August 2017. The new film by Xavier Dolan was partly shot in the Czech Republic in March 2017. The Prague scenes of Tout le monde debout were shot in late June 2017 with the release by Gaumont set for spring 2018, while Ein Sommer in Prag (which takes place almost exclusively in Prague) was shot in August 2016 and already premiered on ORF2 and ZDF.

    The grants were announced on 21 August 2017.
